Dear Roton Middle School Families,

I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! I hope this message finds you well and rejuvenated after a refreshing summer break. As we embark on another exciting school year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to each of you.  We are genuinely eager to meet and greet each student individually and collectively. While I hope you all are continuing to have a wonderful summer break, I also hope that everyone is as excited as I am to start this new school year!

We extend a special welcome to our newest RAMS and “RAMily” Members! Whether you’re joining us from another school within the district, another city, state, or even another country, we encourage you to immerse yourself in the wide range of academic and extracurricular activities offered at RMS. Our goal is to provide a middle school experience that exceeds your expectations!

This year promises to be filled with new experiences and growth.  Our instructional focus will be grounded in data-driven practices with a strong emphasis on standards-based learning. We will clearly articulate learning goals to ensure students understand what they should learn and achieve through rigorous instruction. Additionally, as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP), all our 6th and 7th graders will engage in the IB experience this year. The International Baccalaureate Learner Profile aims to “develop internationally minded people who recognize our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, helping to create a better, more peaceful world.” As we move toward full IB authorization, we will gradually add a new grade level each year as our students progress.

Leading the best faculty and staff in academia is an honor. Our school community is the heart of our institution, and it's through your partnership, dedication, enthusiasm, and support which makes Roton Middle School such a special place. Whether you're a returning student, a new family joining us this year, or a valued member of our staff, we are thrilled to have you back and ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead. I continue to send positive vibes to every one of you! I encourage you to spend the remaining days of summer creating wonderful memories with your loved ones.

All my best,

Ed

P.S. Homeroom/Advisory assignments will be sent out the week of 8/19/24.  If your student does not receive a homeroom assignment, please send them to school on the first day. We will have counselors, secretaries, and administrators available to assist all students, especially those needing physical direction. Schedules will be distributed during homeroom/advisory on the first day of school. If students encounter any schedule errors such as blanks, repeat courses, or incorrect grade levels—they should inform their homeroom/advisory teacher. The teacher will guide them on how to email their counselor to schedule an appointment.

A friendly reminder from the School Nurse:

Dear Parent/Guardian

The state of Connecticut requires that all current 6th and 9th grade students submit a current physical and list of updated immunizations, performed on 7/1/23 or after. These must be on the state of Connecticut Health Assessment Record forms found here. In addition to the physical, all 6th grade students must receive the TDAP and Meningococcal vaccines. All students must be compliant with these requirements or they may not attend school in August 2024. Please provide these documents to the school nurse now or as soon as possible in order to avoid disruption to your child's school year- do not wait! Thank you to those who have already provided this documentation. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.
